Comments on J. R. Clark & Dwight R. Lee's (1996 [see abstract 9714012]) use of the Laffer paradigm to explain why probability of conviction & sentence length do not predict prison space. It is argued that Clark & Lee's conclusion (a transitional gain trap exists in sentences & prisons) is not justified, exploring the validity of the trap & the social & political options of more prison space & longer sentencing. It is suggested that politicians should move toward more prison space & longer sentencing terms. 5 References. P. Schlachte
